Made it Home

I got home one evening after a tour.. I was inspired and sat in the backyard and this just came out of the guitar. I have tweaked it and re-visited it over years. It still has a large improvisatory element going on. I never do it quite the same way each time I play it. Hope you made it home too.

Getting back to the key centre is also making it "home". There is a lot going on technically. It is challenging to play. I hope you enjoy it.

When I started playing guitar fifty years ago (gulp) I really wanted to play classical guitar. There were no teachers where I lived. I took my mother's piano books and moved the left hand up an octave or so. I would simplify left and right hand and condense it all to fit on the instrument. This was my 14 year old self attempting to arrange for solo guitar. Ha!
I managed to buy Aaron Schearer's book 1 classical guitar method and taught myself how to read and go for some kind of technique.
Most of my guitar playing career has been spent in group settings. That is what I would be known for.
But since the beginning I have always been an improviser and composing little solo guitar pieces.
I could never stick at classical playing. I would always veer off and start improvising with the material.
I think it would have been different if guitar was a regular orchestral instrument. I never had that training or experience.
I am enjoying composing, recording and solo performing as well as playing with cellist Ilse de Ziah.
Times have changed, I don't know how it is possible to hire a band anymore! If you have it figured out and it pays, let me know.
As usual, it's free to listen and download. If you feel like making a donation that's cool too.
cheers, Ian
